Brazilian actor training and theatre research
Life, work and teaching
Antunes Filho developed a substantial body of actor training through the Centro de Pesquisa Teatral, or CPT, at Sesc São Paulo. His work joined theatre research, the formation of performers, and the creation of productions.
Sesc identifies actor training among the centre's main fields, alongside dramaturgy, experimentation, scenography, and archival research. Its institutional history records the formation of theatre professionals across several disciplines and a substantial repertoire under Antunes Filho's coordination.
The actor's study
That history places the actor's development within a continuing theatrical environment. Practice, research, and production inform one another. The institution's later teaching also preserves and investigates his artistic and pedagogical legacy.
For your study, Antunes Filho provides an important Brazilian contribution to the international history of training. Follow the CPT's own account of its methods and productions. Preserve the distinction between actor formation and the centre's broader education of playwrights, designers, and other theatre professionals.
