Anne Bogart

Ensemble training and Viewpoints

Life, work and teaching

Anne Bogart's contribution to actor training includes the ensemble practice developed through SITI Company. The company's teaching record describes training offered to actors and theatre artists in the United States and internationally.

SITI uses Viewpoints and the Suzuki Method of Actor Training as distinct approaches. Its members trained with Bogart and Tadashi Suzuki and transmitted those practices through workshops and studio work. Each method has its own history and technical demands.

The actor's study

Within an ensemble, the actor works in relation to other performers, space, and the unfolding event. Bogart's place in this library follows that sustained connection between training and the making of theatre. It also makes visible the company as a place where practices are tested and passed between artists.

Read SITI's account alongside the Tadashi Suzuki entry. Preserve the distinction between the two approaches when comparing them, and follow their transmission through the company's teaching and productions.
